StrataSpeak - Lexicon of the Stratalist
This section is dedicated to deciphering the colloquialisms and downright gibberish
proclaimed on the Stratalist. You are encouraged to take part. Simply state
an unusual (or technical) word or phrase used on the Stratalist and give your
interpretation of the definition in an email directed to Lexicon
of the Stratalist.
Chupa (CHOO-puh) - (fam. chupacabra) of or related to the famed 'vampire goat sucker' of legend in (apparently) all of Latin America. A nocturnal beast that attacks farm animals in the night and drains them of their blood. 1. Yvan knows of one, who follows him around in an old Yugo, assisted at times by some shadowy other figures. 2. richardsan has discovered some as yet undisclosed method of making 'chupalube'. I suspect that we're all better off _not_ knowing what's in it...Suffice to say, there's a _reason_ richardsan is wearing horns on his head in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Stratalist...3. Chupalube™ (CHOO-puh loob) - God only knows. Don't even ask.
ChupaLupa™ (CHOO-puh LOO-puh) - I suspect it is a refined form of Chupalube. But I'm not certain (from: Jason Franz). What Stratalisters order at the Taco Bell drive-through after too manybleary-eyed hours of modeling/animating pinballs and chess sets and reading StrataList. (from: Jean Probert)
clickanophobic (CLIK-an-uh-FOH-bik) - an older person who is not afraid to click, and darn proud of it! (from: Jeanette Maxwell)
clickophobic (CLIK-uh-FOH-bik) - a condition in which people are afraid to click, especially older users new to computers, like my in-laws. They're so darnd afraid they're going to click something wrong, they don't click anything at all (from: Francis Drouillard)
driveby Tad-ing (DRIVE-by TAD-ing) - a friday afternoon email announcement from Tad Trueblood (of Strata, Inc.), usually delivering some info guaranteed to generate a flurry of mail. Often contains a statement about his unavailability until the following monday due to his plan to leave town immediately (from: Michael Luscombe)
grammaticide (gruh-MA-tih-side) - unapologetic butchering of and disregard for all manner of accepted grammatical, syntactical, and punction* standards in one's own written composition, typically resulting in sometimes amusing, but often cryptic or downright incomprehensible email (from: Reagan Johnson)
FMLs (EF-em-ELs) - (acronym) Flying Metal Logos. Ubiquitous shiny animated logos often requested by unsophisticated clients, may also refer to a learning stage through which many 3D animators seem to pass (from: Mugsy Lunsford)
FrankenMac (FRANK-en-MAC) (n) - a [Macintosh system] conglomeration that permits one to spend $15 per day on an old computer rather than $4000 per year on one that is brand new (from: Francis Drouillard)
Keyboard Kill (KEE-bord KIL) - 1. (aka a "SPLORT!") - Scored when you write a post so sidesplittingly funny it causes the viewer to route liquids from cup (usually through the nose) to keyboard and monitor. Get five and yer an Ace. Metadrool™ (MEH-ta-drule) - Organic modelling tool set to appear in Strata3d 5.5.4 or later, useful for food renderings (from: Rodrigo Duarte)
monkey-clicking (MON-kee-KLIK-ing); also monkeyclicking, or munkeeecliking ( a la richard-san) - 1. (v) the act of randomly selecting software control buttons/features in the hopes of producing useful results (in this context, a useful 3D result). Similar to the adage of a million monkeys producing works of Shakespearian quality if you let them type for a long enough time (from Brit Griswold) 2. the ability of (usually) a prime luser (sic) to click on random dialogs until their computer is completely and utterly hosed. (ex. "I was just trying to see this picture Loralee sent me of her huband and her on their fishing trip...I don't know HOW i set up IIS complete with porn site to run on this thing?
